With Organized Steps
Dedicated Support in Metal Roofing
Let’s see what are they.
Method Of Statement
Fabrication at Factory
1.1. There are three (3) stages of inspection done in the factory:
- Receiving Inspection
Inspection of the material (incoming coil) to produce KEXTRA I-CLIP Series High Tensile Metal Roofing will be done before release for roll forming. - In-Process Inspection
KEXTRA I-CLIP Series High Tensile Metal Roofing will be inspect regularly by the line leader during the production. - Final Inspection
Likewise, finished products will be inspect before pack and send to site.
1.2. KEXTRA I-CLIP Series High Tensile Metal Roofing sheet is produce according to site measurement or as-built steel structure.
1.3. However, our maximum length due to the limitation of transportation for KEXTRA I-CLIP Series High Tensile Metal Roofing sheet is within 100 feet. Therefore, site forming is required if more than maximum length because KEXTRA I-CLIP Series are not suitable to have end lapping or join panel.
Material Transportation, Handling & Storage
2.1. KEXTRA I-CLIP High Tensile Metal Roofing sheets will be packed into bundles of approximately 20 pieces each to avoid slipping which may cause dent and scratch.
2.2. Each bundle of roofing sheet will be pack separately by sheet to prevent
scratches.
2.3. KEXTRA I-CLIP High Tensile Metal Roofing sheets will transport to site, unload by appointed installers and stacked properly at the area approved by the main contractor.
2.4. Storing area for KEXTRA Metal Roofing sheets shall be as close as possible to the installation location. Propose location for storage shall be approved by the main contractor. Don’t store the roofing sheet (bundles) in open where they can get wet and in direct contact with the ground. If not required for immediate use, bundles should be stacked clear of the ground and, if left in the open, protected with waterproof covers. Elevate one end of the bundles so that any moisture that may have accumulated during the transportation can run-off like photo on right.
2.5. Ensure KEXTRA Metal Roofing sheets properly stacked on firm, dry, level ground at a location is protected from the weather, accidental damage, theft and moisture.
2.6. Installer will be responsible for taking care of the delivered the metal roofing sheets. If bundle of roofing sheet becomes wet, the panel will be wiped with a clean cloth immediately and stacked so that air circulation completes the drying process.
2.7. Installer need to ensure KEXTRA Metal Roofing sheets shall not be slide over rough surfaces or each other and protect from swaft.
2.8. KEXTRA Metal Roofing sheets will only be unpacked when necessary.
2.9. Handling safety as KEXTRA products may be sharp and heavy. It is recommend that heavy-duty cut-resistant gloves and appropriate manual handling techniques or a lifting plan be used when handling material.
Access to Roof Level
3.1. Scaffolding or ladder will be provided by main contractor.
3.2. Installers will use this scaffolding to access to the roof level for installation.
3.3. It is important that walk on the roofing carefully to avoid damage to either the roofing or yourself. Always take particular care when walking on wet or newly laid sheets especially on steeply pitched roofs.
3.4. Always wear smooth soft soled shoes to avoid ribbed soles that pick up and hold small stones, swarf and other objects.
Safety Precautions
4.1. Safety supervision shall be performed by site personnel and representative from main contractor.
4.2. Standard safety equipment used shall be:-
- Safety helmet
- Gloves
4.3. Shall wear soft rubber soled.
4.4. Safety includes the practices you such as personnel protection of eyes and skin from sunburn. Beware that some sunscreen contain titanium oxides may break down some paint compound and these should be avoided.
Laying Sequence
5.1. Consider which end of the building is best to start from.
5.2. Make sure the alignment/leveling of the purlin is right.
5.3. In strong wind area, the anchorage of eaves purlin in particular should be able to withstand the wind velocity.
5.4. Purlin/batten spacing are not allow to exceed 1200mm. Before laying commences, mark along the purlin’s positions of each metal roofing sheets. This will enable faster laying and unnecessary spreading of the metal roofing sheets.
5.5. Begin laying at the eaves to the lee of the building. Ensure no water leaking, lay the side lap of the metal roofing away from prevailing wind and each must commence square and straight to the purlin.
Side Laps and Flashing
6.1. Side lap fasteners to be fastened through alternate crest along the purlins.
6.2. At metal roofing and flashing mid spans – for purlin spacing over 1,000mm and for girth spacing over 1,200mm.
6.3. The fasteners used to secure the metal sheets to support shall be Class 3 or above and conform to Australian Standard AS3566 self-drilling zinc coated fasteners.
6.4. Fastener need to be fasten perimeter of the flashing and capping on each support.
End Laps
7.1. Metal roofing is available in continuous length limited only by maximum transportable length of 100 feet. Therefore, site forming is required if more than
maximum length because KEXTRA I-CLIP Series are not suitable to have end lapping or join panel.
7.2. End lap is not suitable for KEXTRA I-CLIP metal roof.
Ridge Fixing
8.1. Insert the end of the valley fully into the slotted head of the ridge closure tool and bend up to form water-stop.
8.2. Ridge flashing fixed to metal roofing sheet at every alternate rib crest with Hexagon Head No. 10 x 25 mm self-drilling screw with pre-assembled neoprene bonded washer
Fastening Method
9.1. The fasteners used to secure the metal sheets to support shall be Class 3 or above and conform to Australian Standard AS3566 self-drilling zinc coated fasteners.
9.2. For KEXTRA metal roofing sheet to timber structure : Use of AT 12-14 x 65 DGS or TD 665 HM screws with seal.
9.3. For KEXTRA metal roofing sheet to steel structure : Use of A3 12-14 x 65 DGS or DX 76065 HM screws with seal to fasten to steel purlins/batten not more than 5.5mm.
9.4. Capping and Flashing to KEXTRA sheet : Use A3 12 – 15 x 20 HXW or RX 520 HM screws with seal for capping.
Access and Walking on the roof during installation
10.1. Always wear clean non-marking soft soled shoe to avoid shoe marks on the metal surface.
10.2. Generally keep the load evenly distributed over both feet and not concentrate load on the heel or toe.
10.3. When walking on the roof:
- Always walk over or close to the roofing supports (purlins).
- Always take particular care when walking on the wet or newly laid sheets particularly on sloping sharply pitched roofs, eg. Using safety mesh and perimeter protection.
- Temporary walking platform shall be providing if roof is subjected to heavy floor traffic during construction. This condition will minimize damage to finishing of the roof.
Cutting
11.1. Power saw with a metal cutting steel blade is the best tool to cut the roofing sheet on site it generates larger and cooler particles than abrasive discs.
11.2. For cutting roofing sheet on site, where practicable, the sheets should be cut on the ground, with the exterior colour finish of pre-painted sheet facing down.
11.3. Ensure hot swarf does not come into contact with nearly roofing sheets.
11.4. Do not cut over the top of other coated products where wreckage may fall onto clean roofing sheets.
Clean-Up
12.1. To ensure all particles and wreckage are swept off sheet surfaces immediately after the cutting process.
12.2. After fixing is completed, sweep the roof with soft broom to remove all foreign objects which may stain or corrode the roof surface.
